Artist’s Statement
Born in Aurora, Colorado, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Jordan Caldwell was raised in a single-parent home alongside her older brother. Jordan has constantly been exposed to the arts, whether R&B music, design, or photography. She attended school at Pebblebrook High School through their performing arts program and expanded her field in the arts by studying dance and theater for four years, alongside working within the yearbook club. Jordan has always sought a passion for art, from watching cartoons, animated movies, and video games to adopting a passion for illustration, even launching her own independent business for personal commissions and projects.
Jordan is attending Clark Atlanta University to earn a B.A. in Art with a concentration in Advertising and Design. She completed an internship with The Walt Disney Feature Animation company, learning character design and visual development. She is the first female cartoonist for The Panther newspaper as the creator and artist of her original comic, “On The Promenade.” She also participated in the AUC Student Arts Festival and Exhibition with her original piece titled “Canary.” Cartoons inspire her style through vibrant color expression in graphics influenced by her love for colorful composition. Her art is a medium for expressing creativity and identity through the lens of a black woman and how culture defines her, using her skills in multi-faceted photography, performance, and design skills to arrange layouts to strengthen the presentation of her pieces.
